The influences of modern urban
life, such as air-pollution, electro-smog, continuing stress
etc. create a higher need for certain vitamins and minerals.
The same goes for most illnessess and deseases. Orthomolecular
healthcare prescribes the use of optimal amounts of vitamins,
minerals, spore-elements, enzymes, amino-acids and other substances
that normally occur in our body and our food. The prescribed
amounts to restore or maintain health depend on age, gender,
hereditary conditions, illness, lifestyle etc.
Our ability to absorb nutrients
from the food we eat, becomes less when we grow older. Similar
to the Ayurvedic
rasayana, wich is an invigorating and energising foodsupplement
for healthy people over 40 years of age, the orthomolecular
healthcare professional will advise his/her clients over forty
to take higher doses of micronutrients and antioxidants to
meet the demands of aging.
The R.D.A., wich is the by health-officials
Recommended Daily Allowance, is the minimal daily dose to
prevent the occurrence of deficiency symptoms in most of the
experimental subjects. The amounts of micro-nutrients officialy
advised as healthy, are generally far below the optimal amounts
for most people to attain and maintain good health.
As an othomolecular healthcare
therapist Rudi noticed in his clients a lack of understanding
about the qualities and contents of their daily food. This
lecture will help to determine your actual needs for additional
food supplementation and/or dietary changes in order to maintain
good health.
